Anastasi

I have drawn urban sketches and taken many of photos of this sponge boat. I painted this in my studio using watercolor, gouache, and markers.

The Anastasi is a Greek-designed sponge boat in Tarpon Springs, Florida, and is the last remaining boat built with the traditional design to harvest Gulf of Mexico sponges.  When in port, the Anastasi is moored near the Sponge Divers Supply, 693 Dodecanese Blvd, Tarpon Springs, FL.

Anastasios “Taso” Karistinos is the captain, owner, and sole sponge diver of the Anastasi.  According to his son, the Anastasi is the most photographed and painted boat in town.
